I always like it when a producer just decides to make a collection of snippets and current beats public. Each beat is like a minute or two long and then you move on to the next one. Along side this release Luv Jonez puts out the call for any MCs that want to work with him, there’s enough solid beats here, that we should be hearing a few of these again soon.

8 piece brass band? Check. Some sweet covers off classic hip hop songs? Check. The live instrumentation is always great in our book, and its no different with these guys. Check out this new track and be sure to listen to their cover of spottieottiedopalicious.
This one is a good’un. Beat maker MOEdavey teams up with Melodious Mike to create this boom bap sounding release, based around beauty. Backed with intelligent lyricism, greatly varied production and samples from TED Lecture talks, “Beauty Joints” pretty much ticks all the boxes. One not to be skipped.
Long Time Comin is a collaboration between three Chicago artists that don’t get enough recognition. This is the first work we have heard from these artists in 2012, and we are looking forward to more.

Considering half of the Lesson Six staff is from the UK, we don’t post as much British Hip-Hop as we should. So, let’s rectify that with Brighton’s producer/MC, Jae Fresh, and his recent jazz-inspired release I Need A Coffee. It’s really interesting to hear British topics on tracks, we don’t really get enough tracks on the class divide from American artists, unless it involves the hood or the police in some way. Some really great production on this one too, also handled by Jae with “Wronging”, “Today” & “Black Coffee” standing out so far.
Joke/Not Joke Hip-Hop group, Das Racist, have recently decided to all release solo mixtapes for the new year. Unsurprisingly, Heems’ mixtape, Nehru Jackets, is pretty strange but occasionally hits on those intelligent references that DR’s high reputation was built upon, if albeit littered with subpar guest apperences. Download it for free, before Mediafire goes down as well.
What a great collection of instrumentals this one is. The 19 year-old Hashbrown has a whopping thirty-seven of 60s and 70s funk inspired beats for you to feast on. Let’s hope we’ll be seeing a lot more of this eclectic producer throughout the year. The collection is available on one of those name your price deals.
A remix of Swallow from Mr. J Medeiros’s album Saudade. On this remix, Mr. J Medeiros is accompanied by more of a dub step type production style. Download link if you click the video.
They’re a relatively young group of rappers.
That’s pretty much all the Whethermen have in common with strange internet sensation, OFWGKTA. So seeing as we’re not into rape that much, we’re siding with nerdy and intellectual Whethermen. We’ve already raved about highly quotable rapper, Milo, but the other day we got sent through an email from Safari Al. The singer/rapper has just released his first mixtape, Hermitage Academy, and I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty damn good. Highly recommended, and these are definitely, ones to look out for in 2012.
Another video from Notes to Self. This one is for the song All of the Above, and the video is pretty sweet. The whole theme of the video and the colors they use really add to the song. The song it self has some pretty strong production carried by the rough lyrics. Check it out.
