“Raw” by DTMD

DTMD released a video for their song Raw from their debut album Makin Dollas. A very simple video, but I like the coloring they use with some thing similar to black and white, but with a green hue to it. While the video may be simple, the rhymes are complex and energy is great.

Download: Aeon Gray’s “Still Lifes Sabotage”

Aeon Gray is a conscious lyricist we’ve unfortunately slept on for too long. So to make up for that, we implore you to go and give this man money for this EP. It might be a little short in five tracks and one instrumental, but we’re advocates of quality first, so get that wallet out. Although for those so inclined it is available on a name your price deal, and the minimum is 0. If you’re into that.

“Shazam” by Serengeti (Video)

Anticon snuck out visuals for Serengeti’s “Shazam” out late last week and we’re just one of many blogs playing catch up. Kenny Dennis’ (Serengeti’s alter ego) Shaq diss isn’t nearly as ridiculous as you as you first thought, here the appropriate video providing some context. The whole thing “started” with a comment on Kenny’s moustache and has culminated with this.

We’re still waiting for Shaq’s response.

Review: The Funk League’s “Funky As Usual”

Review: The Funk League’s “Funky As Usual”

Over the last twelve months we’ve been slowly drip fed tracks produced by French producer duo, The Funk League. These mellifluous jazz charged tracks boasted an impressive list of vocal talents and instantly had us pining for a full release. Now, after a lengthy wait, their debut album “Funky As Usual” has finally seen the light of day. The outcome? Disheartened is probably too harsh, but after letting the anticipation build for so long, it’s apt as most of the album’s peaks come in those same tracks we were bumping a year ago.

Continuing with the semi valentines day/love themed music, Brother Ali released The Bite Marked Heart, an EP which serves as a buffer between his last album and his upcoming album Mourning in American and Dreaming in Color.

Lyle Horowitz – Redamancy

Lyle Horowitz – Redamancy

A beat/instrumental EP album from Lyle Horowitz. Big fan of the different sounds and it all flows together seamlessly. A few of the tracks sound very simple yet elegant. I am a big fan of the distorted horn sound on Eternal, and Redamancy also features a artists like Big Pooh and Prezzure.

“Mission Impossible” by The Good Sin

This is the latest single from The Good Sin’s album The Story of Love X Hate which will be released tomorrow. Really looking forward to the album and the evolution of The Good Sin’s sound from his EP last year.

“Jesus” by Blu

j e s u s was one of the many releases, prolific rapper Blu, put out last year. In fact I’m still catching up with a few of his releases last year but this was one I caught. While it was welcomed to a mixed reception there is no denying this track deserved a video. Great soulful production by Madlib combined with a really well shot video should easily redeem that mixtape, for any complaints people had over it.

“Shine On” by Brother Ali

The more we hear from Brother Ali in 2012, the more I’m convinced this is going to be the best year for him yet. We’ve already heard Writers Block off the album, Mourning In America and Dreaming In Color. Yet today Rhymesayers released another banger, from an EP that’s dropping on Monday. The free EP, entitled The Bite Marked Heart, will include seven tracks, one of them being this, “Shine On”.

So I guess we’ll be back on Monday then.

“The Good Fight” – Phonte

New visuals for The Good Fight from Phonte’s Charity Starts at Home. This is a really great video with some powerful images blended in with some great wordplay and rhymes. The video really captures what Phonte is going for in showing the things any average person goes through.
