Jeff Spec takes us on a futurstic themed talk of Vancouver on the visuals for “Elroy Jetson”. This is off the highly recommended Specnology, that came out last year, the subject of our interview with Jeff last year.
As I’m sure you’re already aware, today Adam Yauch aka MCA of The Beastie Boys has passed away at the age of 47. The reason for already being aware is from the outcry and incredible show of support across the hip-hop community on blogs and Twitter. None more apt than the following quote from Sasha Frere-Jones in the New Yorker, “Adam Yauch was a part of my childhood, an ambassador to America from our New York, which is now gone, as is he.” There has been an official obituary of sorts put out on the Beastie’s website, that pays great tribute to one of the pioneers of this genre.
R.I.P Adam Yauch
Brother Ali recently sat down with the people over at Hiphopdx for a lengthy interview. I would highly highly recommend reading the full interview because Ali is able to communicate his thoughts in a very intelligent manner. Some of the answers Brother Ali gives are insightful and can really make us think about certain things. Heres a little snippet below, to read the rest head on over here.
Muneshine just dropped his latest dropped the first track off his upcoming solo release, There is Only Today, and it’s filled with epic. Muneshine gets fierce and referential over a packed, multi-instrument filled beat that just sounds like win. One release we’ll be look out for in the upcoming months.
Lesson Six favourite & general relatable Ontario rapper, Shad, has just released his last two albums on Soundcloud. The upbeat bangers on TSOL & the even better complete album of The Old Prince are now available to stream for free. Now all we’re waiting for is a little bit of Spotify love.
Tracks about video games play a risky game but self-confessed nerd rappers Open Mike Eagle & Milo lend themselves well to the subject on “Boss Fight”. The track, off Open Mike’s recently released free Rent Party Extension EP, features an organic sounding collaboration taking turns reminiscing about their favourite past-time over the kind of dirty-sounding synth that Milo feels at home on. Bleeps & electronic vocals pepper the beat while both throw off Rez & Final Fight references like it’s nothing. Highly anticipating anything these guys together in the future.

On Plan B’s Awkward Attempt at Satire
British success story, Plan B, might not come off as the most eloquent guy but last month he gave his thoughts to an all-ears TEDxObserver crowd on hip-hop and the term ‘chav’, among other topics. It’s definitely well worth a watch whether you’re a fan of his music or not. I found myself agreeing with a lot of what Ben Drew was discussing over the course of his twenty minute talk, until we got to one my biggest gripes with the term conscious.
Tiron & Ayomari are at it again with another video from their album A Sucker For Pumps. The song tells a really good story, and the video is beautifully done.
