“Breaking Vows” by Serengeti

“Breaking Vows” by Serengeti

Another year, another Serengeti album. I’ve always been impressed by artists that keep the output high in both quality and quantity. What’s even more impressive is that each Serengeti release tends to wildly differ from the last.

“Breaking Vows” is a bonus track from Saal, the next album for Serengeti’s ever-growing body of work. The album features production by Sicker Man, a frequently collaborator of Serengeti. They last captured our imagination on “Accommodating” a track originally made for a Sicker Man solo release – which is also listed on the tracklisting for this album - before releasing an album under the pseudonym of Shtaad. Saal is due out on the 12th of February.

Stream: Jel & Odd Nosdam’s “GETI BEATS vol.1″

Stream: Jel & Odd Nosdam’s “GETI BEATS vol.1″

Really disappointed that Jel & Odd Nosdam had this one out for a month before I stumbled upon it. Two of my 2012 highlights have been the two, polar opposite, Serengeti releases. Despite their differences in tone, Jel & Odd Nosdam brought them together with stellar production. So, they decided to pick the best of the bunch, put them on their Bandcamp and put a $2 price tag on them. I obliged, you should to.

“Dennehy RMX” by Serengeti

“Dennehy RMX” by Serengeti

Serengeti’s “Dennehy”, while being his breakthrough track was also the place where I started to get his whole Kenny Dennis persona. Here Jel & Odd Nosdam get hold of Chicago’s unofficial city anthem and do their normal weird stuff to it.

“Peekaboo” by Serengeti

One of the creepiest tracks off Serengeti’s new album C.A.R. just got highly appropriate visuals. Or inappropriate ones, I can’t really tell.

Review: Serengeti’s C.A.R.

Review: Serengeti’s C.A.R.

“Let me get as drunk as fast as I can, so I can pass out and dream about being a different man”. There’s no denying that the air thickens when Dave Kohn, aka Serengeti, steps out of the guse of the Comical Chicagoan Kenny Dennis. The lyrical content gets incredibly darker and he becomes introspective beyond the wildest dreams of any conscious rapper.

“Universe Man (feat. Serengeti)” by Open Mike Eagle

“Universe Man” is easily of the highlights off Open Mike Eagle’s recently released, and recently reviewed4NML HSPL. Great production by Awkward, as most of the album is, along with Open Mike at his wordiest and a solid verse by Lesson Six favourite Serengeti to boot. While the video might cut off Serengeti’s verse, it makes up for it with it’s Saturday morning cartoon inspired visuals.
