People Under the Stairs (puts) has been arguably one of the most successful independent hip-hop acts of the past decade. This album is arguably their most ambitious album to date, as they enlisted help from producers and studios all over LA. From the opening track Selfish Destruction to the conclusion, I can not get over the production of the album. The production of Selfish Destruction especially caught my ear, and then you are thrown right into The Second Track, and there is no break from the catchy production. Thes One and Double K both stay strong and on point trading verses on the various tracks. This is probably one of the best albums of their storied career, and well you just have to listen to it yourself.

On The Horizon: March Update
I’m not sure if this is one we knew about already but a video featuring Thes One and cohorts working on a new album entitled, Wonderful Radio. The only other bits of information we have is that it’s pegged for Summer 2011 and features an accordion. Seems like a pretty big production based on this video. Expect more to come soon…

Wordsmiths: A Collection of Instrumental Tracks to Write to
I’ll admit it, I was hoping to get the Best of 2010 mix out at the end of 2010 but it ended up coming out nearly two weeks into the new year. However, the other thing we were hoping to do was put out more of these things. Since our weekly Top Sixes are on hiatus (exciting developments to come soon though) this is one of the better ways to share older music with you, along with a some current stuff. So that’s why we’re putting out another January Mixcloud.
It’s funny how one line can trigger a playlist:
“We should rap about things that we like / Like food?”
This came about by accident when I was gorging myself on food and a few beers one night and listening to some PUTS. It occurred to me that hip-hop is one of the few genres of music where artists can do just that, rap about any subject as long as the content is clever and/or amusing and the beats are good.
CHRISTOPHER PORTUGAL, COME ON DOWN!
Yes, this is Thes One from People Under The Stairs on The Price is Right. I didn’t believe it either but it’s true. Enjoy.

Northwestern Bell by Thes One
It’s Thursday, so put that microphone down because it’s time to let the producers shine . The first video is from Thes One, one half of People Under The Stairs.
His album, Lifestyle Marketing, is a 2-disc concept-album that features remixes of Herb Pilhofer’s advert and radio jingles – the second disc has the originals for your listening pleasure.
I love this song, from the catchy chorus to the stripped down beats, it’s almost perfect – and that little drum-fill tempo change at 1:50 is divine.
